🟣 What is the Vigilance Committee?
The Vigilance Committee is a local-level protection and support mechanism established to safeguard the rights of women and children and to ensure their physical, mental, and personal safety. The committee works to prevent violence, rights violations, discrimination, and social exclusion against women and children.
Its primary function is to facilitate timely interventions, provide support through available legal and welfare mechanisms, and ensure effective protection systems for women and children by utilizing the legal safeguards and assistance services available to them.
🟢 Objectives and Functions of the Vigilance Committee
1️⃣ Protection of Rights
To protect the rights of women and children and intervene against violence, discrimination, exploitation, injustice, and rights violations committed against them.
2️⃣ Complaint Redressal
To receive complaints involving women and children and ensure appropriate solutions through immediate interventions and support services.
3️⃣ Referral and Follow-up
To refer complaints that cannot be resolved at the local level to the District Vigilance Committee, Women's Commission, Government Agencies, Legal Aid Institutions, and other competent authorities, and to ensure necessary follow-up actions.
4️⃣ Coordination of Services
To coordinate the activities of government and non-government agencies and schemes working for the protection and welfare of women and children.
5️⃣ Creating a Safe Social Environment
To implement activities and initiatives that help create a safe and supportive social environment for women and children.
6️⃣ Community Participation
To ensure the achievement of objectives through people's collectives, community organizations, and local social support systems.
7️⃣ Social Monitoring and Support
To promote community monitoring and public support for women and child protection initiatives.
